Once the only option of sending in auditions was through video during the pandemic, it led to a permanent change of asking people to send in a short video of their audition for roles and high school/college admissions. We have mentored and taught several students how to properly prepare and present themselves on these videos, allowing them to gain admission into prestigious schools including LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, Professional Children’s School, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts High School, Professional Performing Arts High School, Talented Unlimited High School, and several others. We have also coached students looking to continue down the arts path after high school and into college, helping students get into prestigious arts programs in colleges such as New York University.
At its most basic level, you can self-tape with your cell phone, but there is more to it than making a simple video of that nature. To make your “audition” stand out, it is crucial to use professional lighting, a solid background, and clean audio. For example, a ring light or similar lighting tripod, a plain colored wall or drapes, and limited background noise will enhance your self-tape to be the very best version of itself. Overall, we will take the stress off of you by providing you with a finished, edited video that includes these important elements.
We recommend a minimum of 3 sessions to achieve the best possible result. You will likely be asked to do two monologues, one comedic and one dramatic, and during the first session, we will work on the monologues. This monologue work will allow the coach to determine the right monologue for the actor and provide guidance on style, approach, and technique. During the second session, approximately a week after the actor has memorized the lines, we refine the monologue. In the third session, the monologue will be filmed with proper lighting and framing.
