THE SEVENTH ANNUAL QUEENS NEW MUSIC FESTIVAL
MAY 16-20, 2018, IN LONG ISLAND CITY
Nine programs of new music over four days featuring an exciting variety of new music. An annual event that brings new music front and center into Queens.

NEW YORK, NY - The New York-based composer & performer collective, Random Access Music, announces the seventh annual Queens New Music Festival occurring May 16-20, 2018. The festival performances take place at The Secret Theatre (44-02 23rd Street, Long Island City, Queens).

RAM supports the creation and performance of new music through the Queens New Music Festival. This festival, which was first produced in 2012, is an annual event that brings new music front and center into Queens. Each year, RAM invites ensembles to participate and accepts dozens of concert proposals from various artists. RAM then selects and curates the proposals along with invited ensembles to create a 5-day festival celebrating the diversity of styles and voices in new music today. The mission of the festival is to promote new music in Queens by focusing on the wealth of composers, musicians, and ensembles living and working in Queens, as well as highlighting artists from other parts of New York City and the country. RAM has presented over 50 concerts since the first Queens New Music Festival in 2012, featuring numerous World, United States, and New York Premiers.

Curated by composers and performers of RAM, the Queens New Music Festival continues its diverse cross-section programming of contemporary music from this side of the world and beyond featuring invited musicians and proposal winners. The proposal winners for this year are The Bowers-Fader Duo, icarus Quartet, percussionist Zack Baltich, pianist David Holzman, The Blagoeva-Massicotte Duo & The New Music for Strings Festival, and The Resurgam Quartet. Music to be heard on the festival include works by contemporary music legends such as Thomas Adès, George Crumb, Arvo Pärt, George Perle, Steve Reich and Joji Yuasa; established and emerging composers such as Andy Akiho, Seth Boustead, Katherine Hoover, Lowell Liebermann, Brad Lubman, John Mackey, and Fernando Otero; and RAM composers David Fetherolf, Gilbert Galindo, and Frances White.

The festival launches with a concert produced in cooperation with the Queens New Music Group (QNMG) on Wednesday, May 16th featuring the RAM String Quartet performing works by QNMG composers. The next day, May 17th, the festival gets underway with the opening headline concert "Four Decades of Exploration" with Vladimir Valjarević and Mirna Lekić, Piano, David Lisker, Violin, Tali Roth, Guitar, and Kate Dillingham, Cello. The festival continues over the weekend and concludes with a concert of new music for clarinet, violin, and piano featuring RAM's 2018 Call for Scores winner, Croatian composer Ivan Božičević.

All-access festival passes are $120; Saturday passes are $45; Friday or Sunday one-day passes are $30. General single tickets for individual performances will be $20, $15 for students. All concerts are free for children 12 and under.
