STA Classes 2020

Secret Theatre Academy (STA) Classes 2020
We’ve been providing classes for the LIC community since 2011 for ages 6-17. Our Musical Theatre and Junior Drama Teacher, Mary Lauren, has been with us for over 4 years now, and loves to help students develop and grow. Richard Mazda, our founder, also teaches Senior Drama and Film for the Academy. We also provide individual coaching for those of our students preparing for their performing arts school auditions.

STA provides the following classes:

Junior Drama
Ages: 6 – 10 years old | Days: Every Saturdays | Time: 9:45 AM – 11:00 AM
Young performers build confidence and begin to develop their skills as stage actors. In this class, teacher Mary Lauren leads a mixture of drama games, scene analysis, and character exploration guaranteed to bring even the shyest first-timers out of their shells. We have been thrilled to see our students excel not only onstage, but in every area of their lives. Junior Drama students consistently acquire improved public speaking skills, greater social confidence, and an instinct for team work. Final showcases are at the end of the semester, and all classes perform.
Junior Musical Theatre
Ages: 7 – 10 years old | Days: Every Sundays | Time: 10:00 AM – 11:15 AM
Senior Musical Theatre
Ages: 11 – 17 years old | Days: Every Saturdays | Time: 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM
In this class, students will work to improve their individual skills as actors while also honing their dancing skills and practicing healthy vocal technique. Students of all experience levels are welcome to join this class where building ensemble, taking risks, and creative storytelling are key. Final showcases are at the end of the semester, and all classes perform.
Senior Drama
Ages: 11 – 17 | Days: Saturdays | Time: 12:15 PM – 1:30 PM
For more experienced performers (although it’s open to all levels), this intermediate/advanced acting class is taught by ST Founder Richard Mazda. Students will build out their “performer’s toolbox” with techniques from several acting philosophies while strengthening their bonds as an ensemble. Our students excel not only onstage, but in every area of their lives. Final showcases are at the end of the semester, and all classes perform.
Senior TV / Film Drama
Ages: 11 – 17 years old | Days: Every Sundays | Time: 11:15 AM – 12:30 PM
Our theater’s founder and artistic director Richard Mazda teaches this class for young performers interested in acting in film/television projects. Students will learn about the differences in technique when acting for the camera, and work as a group to produce a short ensemble film to be screened at the end of the semester.
Broadway Musical Theatre
Ages: All Ages | Days: Tuesdays | Time: 3:40 PM – 4:40 PM
In this class, students will work to improve their individual skills as actors while also honing their dancing skills and practicing healthy vocal technique. Students of all experience levels are welcome to join this class where building ensemble, taking risks, and creative storytelling are key. Final showcases are at the end of the semester, and all classes perform.
Broadway Tap
Ages: All Ages | Days: Wednesdays | Time: 3:45 PM – 4:45 PM
So many classic and contemporary Broadway shows feature this unique dance style, and Mary Lauren is here to help beginners (and intermediate dancers) of all ages brush up on their shuffles, stamps, and time steps. Get a leg up for future auditions and most importantly, have fun! Final showcases are at the end of the semester, and all classes perform.
