Richard Mazda is a UK born actor, writer and director who is now a proud American. He is also the Artistic Director of the Secret which he founded and built in 2007. Richard has produced and written hit records for various artists and is the Executive Director of LIC Arts Open. He is a committed animal activist, vegan and wanna be bon vivant. Founder of STADA and instructor for all Senior acting classes.
Manager / Development Director
Kayla originally hails from a small town in southern California, where she acquired her love of theatre and film. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of THML Theatre Co., a female-lead production company based here in NYC. Kayla received her B.A. in Theatre and Cultural Anthropology from California Baptist University, and further performance training at the Center for Alternative Theatre Training in Athens, Greece.
Ashley Boehm is originally from the Bay Area and has been working professionally as a performer and writer since she was a teenager. She started working for The Secret this year doing costumes and props for Columbinus and Seussical Jr. and as a teacher during the summer camps. She is thrilled to join The Secret as its School Manager.
Tara Mary Schmitt
Box Office Supervisor / Administrative Assistant
Born in LI but was raised in Queens. Attend and graduated from Queens College. Since 2010, Tara has been working at the Secret Theatre. Other positions: Stage Manager, Costume Supervisor, Set Painter, Prop Mistress, House Manager, Usher. Thanks for coming, enjoy the show!
Justin Hsu is a NYC based stage and production manager originally from Claremont, CA. Since 2014, Justin has worked on over 30 shows in community, immersive, Off Off Broadway, and Off Broadway theatre, opera, concerts, galas, and more. Justin was first introduced to The Secret Theatre in the World Voice Ensemble's production of Jesus Christ Superstar in December 2016 at the theatre, and began working as the production manager of the theatre when he was brought on board as the stage manager for Gypsy in January 2018. Justin is thrilled to work at The Secret Theatre and to bring a variety of exciting works to Long Island City!
Director / Choreographer
Mary Lauren has had work seen in NY, NJ, CA, and NM. She has her BFA in theatre, with a musical theatre concentration. She has directed children for 15+ years. Favorite director/ choreo credits- Stage: Fabulous The Musical (Times Square Arts Center), Hair (The Secret Theatre), Thoroughly Modern Millie (The Music Room), Sophia (Richmond Shepard Theatre), My Shadow and Me (Cape May Stage); Film: Dream of Spring. Favorite acting credits include: Louise, Gypsy (The Secret Theatre) Sarah, Sarah Was Mine (Cherry Lane Theatre) Sophia, Sophia (The June Havoc Theatre) Helena, A Midsummer Nights Dream (Mysterium Theatre) and Gertrude, Hamlet (Compass Rose Theatre). She is a proud Equity member.
Jessica Fornear (Stage Manager, Actor, Singer, Sound Designer, Make-up Artist), born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, moved to NYC in to attend the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts and graduated with an associate’s degree in Theater, Film, and Television. She has recently stage managed [Title of Show], The Exonerated, Ma -Negative Space Ninja Ballet, the LIC One Act Festival (ST), and Hamlet presented by Ript Theatre Company (ST). She will be playing Princess Particular in Princess Particular for the Secret Children's Theatre. She is grateful to her friends and family for their constant love and support.
Social Media Coordinator
Originally from the UK, Caroline is the Social Media Coordinator for The Secret Theatre. She has a BA in English Language and Literature from Pace University and previously trained as an actor at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. She is also a freelance dramaturg and writer.
Jakub Dejko is a current senior at Information Technology High School. He is pursuing his passion in film & video by being enrolled in the Video Production academy at his school. After three years of being educated in his field of interest, he earned himself a job at Secret Theatre, LIC. He is now getting hands-on experience and hoping to get recommendations in order to further succeed in college.
